the saxon is done

done

DSC02695

what: saxon braid scarf from knitting on the edge, errata here
start: 8/31/05
finish: 10/15/05
needle: clover bamboo 10 straight
yarn: 3 skeins knitpicks sierra in cranberry
notes on the pattern: the pattern is pretty easy to follow, although i think i chart would have been easier to read instead of the line by line. it took me a long time to remember what the abbreviations for the cables meant. i didn't really get it until the last skein got going but once i did it went quite a bit faster. knotting all of the little fringes was kind of a pain, too, but it came out well. and creating the fringe was nerve wracking but not to fear, twisting those stitches really did keep things from unravelling. this scarf is probably one of the most polished looking knits i have ever knit. it's very posh and looks like something you could buy at a store.
notes on yarn: the sierra was very nice to knit with. it was chunky but soft and had a nice hand. the resulting fabric was a bit dense at first but softened up a lot with a good wet block. the yarn is pretty close to debbie bliss' cashmerino chunky as far as i can tell. i just wish they had more colors available. next time i might try one of the luxury yarns that has a bit more drape, like the panache. this would look fab in a pale pink or grey. it's so classy looking. oh and the actual color is more towards the first picture. the one with me in it is a bit too bright. it's a very nice, deep red.

overall this was a fun knit and it going to make a fabulous gift. yay! now onto the next one!
